Old Floor Heater Pilot Light

Turn the gas control to pilot and hold it in while you light the flame with a match or a lighter.
Old floor heater pilot light. The vent that distributes heat sits above the furnace and is covered by a metal grille at floor level. A floor furnace is powered by gas and has a pilot light inside the furnace. Lighting the pilot light on a gas heater is simple to do. Sometimes on the old wall units the knob on the gas valves are very stiff and i have found that if the knob isnt completely turned to on after lighting pilot it will not let the burners light.
Keep the knob in for 20 seconds and then release it and turn it to the on position. Off the gas valve will be small aluminum tubing that will lead you to pilot assembly turn the knob to pilot position then push knob striaght in and light pilot and continuie tohold knob in for a minute or so then turn back to heating position if thermocoulpe is good flame will stay on replace thermocouple if flame dies out. Turn the thermostat to its lowest setting. If your old gas furnace has a standing pilot you can follow a standard procedure to relight the pilot light.
First turn your thermostat all the way down so only the gas pilot light is burning. Here is how to turn off the pilot light on a gas heater. If that doesnt help disconnect the stat wires at the furnace and try a jumper from the r and w terminals at funace and see if it lights if it doesnt then the valve or the transformer if it has on it may br a pilot generator type if really old could be bad.
